Small Animal Non-IATA Carriers

Small animals need a carrier that contains them securely without the gaps a cat or dog carrier can afford. Rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and ferrets all need solid floors, fine ventilation and enough room to sit up properly. Pet Corner Dubai stocks small animal carriers from NutraPet and others.

What makes our small animal carrier range stand out

1. Fine grilles that contain small species

Ventilation spacing narrow enough that a hamster cannot squeeze through and a rabbit cannot trap a foot, which is a real risk with a repurposed cat carrier.

2. Solid bases for bedding

A flat floor holds absorbent bedding and hay, which prey species need for both comfort and grip.

3. Height for rabbits to sit upright

Rabbits need to sit up on their haunches. Carriers too short for that are one of the most common sizing mistakes.

4. Top-opening access

Lifting a rabbit or guinea pig out from above supports the body properly. Dragging one through a front door risks a spinal injury, which rabbits are particularly prone to.

Frequently asked questions

What size carrier does a rabbit need?

Enough length to lie fully stretched and enough height to sit upright with the ears clear. Height is the dimension usually got wrong. Guinea pigs need less height but appreciate room to move away from a companion.

Should I take food and water in the carrier?

For rabbits and guinea pigs, always take hay, even on a short trip. Their digestive systems need constant fibre and can shut down within hours without it, which is a genuine emergency. Water can go in an attached bottle for longer journeys.

How do I reduce stress for a prey animal in transit?

Cover part of the carrier with a light cloth so they feel hidden, keep noise and music low, drive smoothly, and travel with a bonded companion where possible. Prey species hide illness and stress, so a quiet rabbit is not necessarily a calm one.

Can I use a cat carrier for a small animal?

Sometimes for a rabbit, if the ventilation gaps are small enough and the height is adequate. For hamsters, gerbils and other very small species it is not safe, as they escape through gaps a cat carrier is not designed to close.
